Implications of Study

We have learned more about Pakistani community in Hong Kong, especially regarding the particular group of students who have different learning environment. Their identity constructions are indeed affected by multiple factors, ranging from language use of different interlocutors including themselves to family background and many more.

From a broader aspect, it is hoped that HKSAR government would initiate more policies targeting different minorities – say in career, education, social welfare, housing, etc. A case in point, policies concerning minorities’ career development should be contemplated. As our informants have pointed out, they do not know what careers they can pursue if they go back to Pakistan. They all want to stay in Hong Kong and look for any potential job opportunities. Yet Hong Kong is very competitive in finding jobs. If the policies are comprehensive enough to meet their needs, the gap between study and workforce for these minorities groups may be bridged and smoothened.
