 Methodology

In the hope of collecting sociolinguistic data to help us understand linguistic situation of the Pakistani community in Hong Kong, field work is necessary and valuable. Interviews were conducted to get an in-depth reflection on informants’ identity construction and their language use under different contexts, ranging from conversation with classmates, teachers, and even their parents. A wide range of questions were asked to ensure our research is comprehensive. This enables us to get a better understanding of informants’ feelings towards different aspects of their lives, thereby shedding light on why they perceive their identities in a particular way. With assistance from different parties of which we are deeply grateful, we conducted two group interviews with 5 informants in total: 2 boys studying in a local school and 3 girls studying in an Islamic school. Our informants are all senior high students, with expectation to be able to develop a standpoint and express their views clearly and logically. We respect informants' wishes on what to disclose online. Consent forms were obtained: with their permission, we would use their nicknames and would not disclose information about their full name, school's name, etc. which might reveal their identity and cause troubles to their lives

Secondary data, like scholars' researches on the field of language and identity, would be collected to further support our argument and findings.
